There’s good news in store for local makers, tinkerers, hackers and dabbling types, as a new ‘makerspace’ project is set to open up in Loughborough Junction soon.
Tom Newsom, one of the Trustees of South London Makerspace, told Brixton Buzz all about the venture:
“Before getting specific, here’s Wikipedia’s definition of the institutions variously known as hackspaces, makerspaces, hacklabs etc.
“A community-operated workspace where people with common interests, often in computers, technology, science, or art, can meet, socialize and/or collaborate.”
That’s a pretty broad definition, as these spaces are found all over the world, in all sorts of communities, with all sorts of specialities and cultures. The largest in Europe is London Hackspace, which has over 800 members who have 24/7 access to a large, well-equipped workshop.
