A father-and-sons partnership has purchased the Ames Tribune building and has plans to honor the historic structure while adding to the synergy of downtown Ames.
Jerry Nelson, president of Nelson Electric Company, and his sons, Chris Nelson, vice president, and Matt Nelson, manager, have purchased the building located at 317 Fifth St. in downtown Ames.
“We want to add our energy to the other neat things that are going on downtown — the work at the Sheldon Munn that Dan Oh is doing, Noir bar opening up, the sidewalk repairs,” Chris Nelson said. “There are a lot of things happening downtown. The opportunity presented itself to play a bigger role in that, and we jumped on it.”
The Ames Tribune, housed in the building since 1929, is set to move this month into a nearby office at 210 Fifth St.
