UTC’s Challenger STEM Learning Center marks the 36th anniversary of the tragic Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster, keeping the educational mission of the Challenger alive.
On Jan. 28, 1986, people across the nation watched with wide eyes as the Space Shuttle Challenger began its 10th flight. 73 seconds into the flight, awe turned into fear and confusion as an explosion caused the space shuttle to break apart, almost nine miles in the air.
The accident resulted in the deaths of all seven crew members aboard the Challenger, a tragedy that shook the USA. Following the accident, the families of the crew members came together, vowing to keep their loved ones’ spirits alive, continuing the educational mission of the Challenger.
