Schools have found a fun way to get families and friends involved in their students’ reading progress while raising money at the same time. It’s called a Read-A-Thon.
Milton Elementary and Middle School will kick off its annual Read-A-Thon at the end of this month, asking parents and community members to sponsor students on the online pledge platform.
Each child participating gets an individual profile that can be shared by email or on social media to invite sponsors.
“It’s a fun way to engage families in a discussion about literacy and reading,” Milton librarian Erin Kizziar said. “The child’s responsibility is to log daily reading.”
Kids can read anything they want and can read at home or at school, according to the website. Read-A-Thon timers track all of the reading minutes online.
