BETHLEHEM — Vanguard, Inc., the volunteer wing of the Albany Symphony Orchestra, and the Delmar Reformed Church are sponsoring a used musical instrument drive to aid Capital Region children in need.
The drive is 9:30 a.m. to noon Sunday, March 12, at 386 Delaware Avenue.
The drive cannot accept pianos, electric keyboards, guitars, accordions or recorders.
As of March 1, 558 instruments have been collected. They will be distributed to to 11 local school districts that lack sufficient instruments for hundreds of prospective young musicians whose families cannot afford the expensive rental or purchase fees.
The program allows the children the chance to study music in depth and play in their school orchestras or bands.
