
A science teacher at Yerington Elementary School has been named a finalist for the 2021 Nevada Teacher of the Year.
Lynn Jeka, who has taught at YES for 17 years, was notified during a recent teleconference call that she was one of four finalists. The Lyon County School District publicly announced the honor last week.
“I found out about three weeks ago,” Jeka said, adding that the process began last spring. “The woman who oversees the Teacher of the Year program had coordinated with (Principal Blake) Cooper. We were on a staff Zoom meeting and she was in the meeting and announced it to the whole staff. I was really surprised. I knew I was competing with some outstanding educators… hundreds of people. I am really proud to represent my school and our district at the state level.”
