Spread across Jim Clements’ once-busy workshop are several items that can be found in someone’s home. Clements plans to use these items to teach kids science. “The whole point is to get kids involved in STEM and get them actually thinking and learning,” Clements said. He’s making Made New Maker kits and they are filled with 150 pieces. Clements realized the need for them when schools began to shut down. “A big packet of paper is going to be really hard to keep my kids engaged for four, six, eight weeks,” Clements said. Made New Makerspace is a nonprofit that helps at-risk youth become successful adults. He said this is a critical time for kids. “For those youth, they run the biggest risk of failure,” Clements said.
