As if the check for $3,000 wasn’t enough, Port Neches-Groves High School Librarian Candice Curran laughed, saying, “I get a present too?” as Indorama Ventures Port Neches Site Director Kim Hoyt presented her with a gift bag during a surprise presentation last week.
Curran won the grand prize high school STEM Innovation Grant Award Indorama Ventures awards yearly to Golden Triangle middle and high school teachers.
Her project proposal using “Makerspace” was selected from numerous others as the most innovative in the high school category.
Curran started using Makerspace with students this year in a craft-oriented initiative.
“Sometimes students just need a disconnect from the stress of school and need to touch things and make things,” Curran said.
