Blake and Michael spend their Saturdays building robots. Youthful as they are, this 8th– and 9th– grade duo are veterans of the engineering scene, with eight years’ experience and several team robotics competitions between them. This fall, they’re embarking on a design challenge with theFIRST LEGO League (FLL) team and will head off against other regional teams in January and February.
The two are just a glimpse of the creative spirit you’ll find when dropping by the Gorge MakerSpace in downtown White Salmon at 32 NE Pioneer Place. The nonprofit multimedia workshop was founded in 2014 to serve as an accessible resource to anyone in the community with the notion to create. “We provide the coaching and tools to bring STEM ideas to life,” their website explains, inviting “makers of all ages to design, invent, and tinker.”
