Clintonel Innovation Centre (CIC) in Aba, Abia State, and ChipLab have finalised plans to establish a partnership aimed at launching a Chip Lab Academy within CIC, focused on training Nigerians in microchip design.
Microchips, small electronic devices made of semiconducting material, play a critical role in storing and processing information for various electronic devices.
These components power an array of products such as mobile phones, computers, robotics, automobiles, electronics, aeroplanes, and rockets, among others.
The global microchips industry, valued at 592 billion USD in 2022, is projected to reach $2 trillion by 2032. Even targeting a modest 10 per cent of this market could generate $200 billion for Nigeria, potentially creating over 50,000 new jobs and boosting the country’s GDP by up to 50 per cent.
