BRIDGEPORT — The 62-year-old Discovery Museum on Park Avenue in Bridgeport is being acquired by Sacred Heart University, located a mile up the road in Fairfield.
The deal, which reportedly includes no exchange of money, takes effect on Jan. 1, 2021, and will last through at least the end of the museum’s lease in 2087.
The university, however, has agreed to completely modernize the facilities and enhance its exhibits. The museum, which temporarily closed in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, focuses on science and technology.
The modernization has a head start with a $1.8 million upgrade underway to the museum’s planetarium and classrooms that is being funded by the state.
