An innovative program is teaching some of Hilliard City Schools’ youngest students how to thrive in a technological world.
Makerspace, which is offered at 12 of the district’s elementary schools, is designed to foster creativity and critical-thinking skills through a variety of exercises ranging from artistry to robotics.
Two of those elementary schools are Britton and Ridgewood.
Last week at Ridgewood, third-graders spent a morning programming robots named Dash that looked like they could have been extras in a Pixar movie.
Marsha Pfahl, a media specialist at both Ridgewood and Britton, coached the class on how to use coding to make the robots move.
Students worked in small groups and were tasked with directing their Dash to leave and return to same spot by making a series of turns at right angles, essentially following a rectangle outlined on the floor.
