HOLYOKE — U.S. Rep. Richard E. Neal announced Monday $2 million in federal dollars for the ongoing renovation of Girls Inc. of the Valley‘s headquarters, offices and program center.
The funds will substantially aid in the $7 million renovation of Girls Inc.’s 16,000-square-foot facility at 480 Hampden St. in Holyoke. The facility, set to be the group’s permanent base, is projected to cater to over 1,000 girls from underserved communities. It’s former home was at 52 Nick Cosmos Way.
The allocation was facilitated through Congress from the U.S. Department of Education for fiscal 2023.
“Congress has the fundamental responsibility to oversee the expenditure of the public purse, with earmarking serving as a check on the nation’s spending to ensure regional equity,” Neal said during the announcement, held at Girls Inc. new offices.
