Plans for a controversial $76.5 million cultural and civic centre in Coffs Harbour have been approved.
The new building, set to be located on Gordon Street, will house the city’s regional gallery, central library, regional museum and become home to the council’s customer service support team and council offices.
The BVN-designed project, which has been dubbed the new “focal point” for Coffs Harbour’s creative industry, will also offer a multipurpose meeting and rooftop terrace for community use—a co-working space, maker space and digital creative studio.
A final decision on the project was originally expected in late October or during the first week of November, however, the inclusion of council chambers in the project’s plans marked a major point of contention, dividing the community and its councillors.
