City taxes to decrease in 2021; two utilities to increase

Taxes to drop 2.1 percent, water and garbage pick-up to increase….

The city expects to drop taxes next year by 2.1 per cent.
“Going into 2021 we do expect some uncertainty and the continuation of unfavorable circumstances for many of our residents,” said Shelley Thomas, the city’s finance manager.
Mayor Barry Morishita said the budget is forward-looking in terms of supplying value for money and being very cognizant as to what residents are going through.
Some of the programs that staff suggested should be cut council maintained or reduced their budgets to keep them operating.
The projects include $3,500 in funding for the installation of wheelchair accessible doors into the corridor at the Centennial Regional Arena. If a grant for the project is approved the funding will be removed.
