STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Maker Park is ready for an artistic makeover, and those maintaining the grounds are calling on local creatives for inspiration.
The sculpture garden and mural grounds, located across the street from MakerSpace in Stapleton, is looking for six artists in the New York City area to be a part of a three-month residency and upcoming public art exhibition. The residency will be from May 1 to July 31 with the public art exhibition running from Aug. 1 through May 2022.
“Artists do not need to have experience in the medium that they are building their project in,” DB Lampman, co-owner of MakerSpace, told the Advance/SILive.com when asked about the candidates they are hoping to attract. “If an artist is primarily a painter, but would like to propose making a sculptural version of their painting in wood or metal, we will help them figure that out and help train them…
