SIOUX CENTER—A plan to make the Sioux Center Middle School’s makerspace more accessible for those with disabilities by installing a lift system was unanimously approved by the Sioux Center School District Board of Education at its meeting Monday.
The makerspace is a place where students can make things to engage in hands-on learning and creative-thinking work with robots, coding games and more. It’s located in the former high school shop class area north of the gymnasium. It was developed through collaboration with Interstates in Sioux Center.
However, going down a set of stairs is necessary to access the space from the hallway, with no good way for those with physical handicaps to safely reach the room.
