The Lafayette Public Library Board of Control appears to have violated the state open meetings law Monday by taking up an agenda item that was too vague for the public, most board members and the board’s attorney to know what was going to be discussed.
The agenda item stated, “American Library Association” and “Board will discuss and may take action.”
Louisiana Revised Statute 42:19, the open meetings law, states, “Each item on the agenda shall be listed separately and described with reasonable specificity.”
It appears the item was placed on the agenda by former board President Robert Judge, who stepped down as board president in August to appease residents and Parish Council members who wanted him to resign from the board after a series of controversial actions, including an illegal executive session in August where he led the board to illegally fire…
