Brandie Dowda spent the last year transforming the school library at Burrus Elementary into a safe, welcoming space. She made sure there was something for every student, even the reluctant readers, to enjoy during library time: shiny graphic novels, a makerspace and a 3D printer. Some eager students tried sneaking into the library when they were supposed to be in other classes, she said.
