I mention family, because my family has always been one of the biggest motivators behind my ambitions, and in the last few years, life has all but knocked us down. That handsome dude pictured next to me in the photo? That’s my Uncle Pat. He’s a cheerful, fun-loving guy and a family man, who also happens to have special needs. When Covid struck, our ability to keep care providers in his home went away, and we were forced to move him into a group home. And last year, Pat and his sister Laura, my single mother who has survived cancer and so much more like a champion, lost both of their parents, my grandparents.
