Davis expands local business incubator in hopes of attracting more inventors

The city of Davis is investing in the expansion of a local business incubator called Inventopia.It’s a space with state-of-the-art labs for entrepreneurs who need to jump-start their inventions, and it just moved to Pena Drive.Inventopia is attracting dozens of people who have big ideas but not a lot of money to kick off their dreams. Those looking to rent space pay about $200 a month.”One of the things we try to do here is we try to make it that the barrier to entry for entrepreneurship is as low as possible,” said Tim Keller, who opened Inventopia. “You could be working at Starbucks and coming here at night and building a robot that is a new way of harvesting some sort of crop, or you could be working on a therapeutic or a new test for COVID. We have companies here that are doing COVID-related stuff, but we make it as cheap as possible so you don’t have to go and raise money…
