Beginners learn to weave with rushes from Gilles Lake

Menaywayn Sandy, 10, and her mother, Sue Spence, learn a basic weaving technique on a cardboard loom at the C.M. Sheilds Centennial Library in South Porcupine on Saturday. The workshop was led by Sylvia Martin, founder of the Porcupine Handweavers and Spinners Guild. Martin brought dried rushes she'd harvested from Gilles Lake for weavers to incorporate into their work.
