Nearly 60 artists, local businesses, and area cultural organizations are signed up to appear at the first ever Watertown Arts Market, a free event being held at Arsenal Park on Aug. 21. Organizers hope it will evolve into an annual event that celebrates the vibrancy of the local creative community.
“We wanted to do something beneficial that would celebrate and uplift the local artist community,” said Jaclyn Dentino, one of the founders of the event and chairperson of the Watertown Arts Market Committee. Until recently, Dentino was communications director at the New Repertory Theatre in Watertown.
“Since people have not been able to visit galleries or attend live performances because of the COVID pandemic, we thought this could raise awareness of the arts and also celebrate the resiliency that’s here in the community,” she added.
