BEDFORD — North Lawrence Community Schools’ first dedicated makerspace classroom was unveiled last week at Lincoln Elementary School.
The STEM makerspace will provide tools for students to engage in hands-on activities related to science, math, creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking.
A makerspace is where people with shared interests, especially in computing or technology, can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment and knowledge.
Tools such as 3D printers, makerspace kits, durable, specially designed tables, a green screen for pod casts and teacher training were provided by United Way of South Central Indiana through a grant from the GM Foundation. The grant also paid for Lincoln to get a VEX table, which is used for robotics. The table will be on the stage in the school gym.
