Students in grades 3-5 at Central Boulevard Elementary School in the Bethpage School District recently made creative projects in a modified library makerspace. A makerspace is an area reserved in a school library for students to utilize to partake in hands-on activities, such as arts and crafts.
School media specialist Ann Tracy assembled 300 individual makerspace kits with materials for origami projects, paper snowflakes and several types of bookmarks. She then distributed them to in-person students during library class and mailed the kits home to remote learners. Students were also able to complete additional projects during indoor recess by following the instructions on Ms. Tracy’s Google Classroom.
