Artisans and craftsmen, all lovers of making things, sometimes encounter a shared problem in New Orleans.

Getting access to — or finding space to use — big, expensive equipment for glass-blowing, welding and other hands-on arts.

Kay and Mitch Champagne think the so-called Maker Movement could have a shared solution. They envision a membership space for artisans to share tools, training and inspiration. They’re calling it NOLA Tchoup Block.

“This is the outlet for all of those creative people that are in New Orleans that have all of these creative juices and ideas flowing through their head but are living in a third-floor 600-square-foot apartment,” Mitch Champagne said.
