The Texas A&M Board of Regents tasked interim university president Mark Welsh to form a special committee to commemorate the return of the A&M-Texas football game during the Regents meeting Thursday morning.
The Aggies and Longhorns will renew their gridiron rivalry next fall when Texas joins the Southeastern Conference. The two teams have played 118 times, but the game has been dormant since 2011 when A&M left the Big 12 Conference.
This special committee will work until at least Jan. 1, 2025. Welsh said it will be comprised of A&M administrators, regents, student leaders, Corps of Cadets members, former students, faculty and staff.
“I hope where it goes is it helps us build the excitement for the return of the rivalry,” Welsh said Thursday. “We’ve got to figure out a good name for this rivalry. We’ve got to embrace the passion that’s always come…
