Greenrock is part of a collaborative initiative bringing the Earth Day Challenge to Bermuda on April 22.
A spokesperson said, “Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. In the decades leading up to the first Earth Day, people all around the world, primarily in developed nations, were consuming vast amounts of leaded gas through massive and inefficient automobiles.
“Industries deemed to be progressive and innovative at the time belched out smoke and sludge with little fear of consequences from the law, public scrutiny, or bad press. Air pollution was commonly accepted as the smell of prosperity. Until this point, most people remained largely oblivious to environmental concerns and how polluted environments threaten human health.
