The local firm’s 700m² community centre and separate 130m² ‘MakerLab’ were recently approved as part of the BPTW-led masterplan to replace the ‘outdated’ Richmond-upon-Thames 1960s estate with 450 new homes.
The major redevelopment is being backed by Hill Group UK and joint venture partner Richmond Housing Partnership (RHP).
The proposed community centre will house a multi-use activity hall, music studios, meeting rooms, art room, sensory room, ICT room and a large shared community space which opens out on to the village green. The building will will sit at the edge of the wider masterplan and replace the existing Ham Youth Centre.
According to the architects, this ‘welcoming’ block has taken its architectural inspiration from the nearby 17th-century landmark Ham House.
