Feb. 10—Penn State Berks’ Berks LaunchBox business incubator has been awarded a $53,000 grant from Berks County.
The LaunchBox will work with Furniture Soup to use the money to revamp its co-working space at its headquarters at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts.
Funds will be used to buy new desks, storage, sound dampening equipment, laptops, makerspace materials and a 3D scanner.
“These funds would go a long way to supporting early-stage startups and entrepreneurs in Reading, helping them to de-risk their startup and scale their business successfully,” Erica Kunkel, director of Berks LaunchBox and continuing education at Penn State Berks, said in a statement announcing the grant.
The grant is part of the county’s IMAGINE Berks Strategic Economic Development Action Plan. The plan includes six areas of focus, with one focus being small business and entrepreneurship.
