As paper rockets soared into the sky in front of Fort Worth Library’s Northwest Branch, Angelica Pineda and her daughter walked in without realizing it was the grand opening of the library’s new makerspace.
“It was actually an accident,” said Pineda last month at the event. “We just came to drop off books and we saw all these people here.”
Funded by city dollars and a private business, the library is calling the space the Panther Lab. It is the first free makerspace in Fort Worth and will be open 16 hours a week at the Northwest branch with classes and open studio times to explore the tools and equipment. Everyone is welcome to come to the Panther lab–whether you have a library card or not.
