A local engineer took full advantage of the the Loveland Public Library’s Makerspace to take his love for rockets to the next level, building a nearly 6-foot-tall replica of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
Greg Caster, a sales engineer at Otterbox, said he remembers building model rockets with his dad as a kid. Several years ago he attended a rocket launching sponsored by the Northern Colorado Rocketry Club, an event that pushed him fully into his love of rocketry.
“I had no idea that the hobby evolved so much beyond the (model) rockets that many of us used as kids,” he said. “Once I realized that you could do big rockets and send them high in the air, I got hooked.”
Caster said during the pandemic he began to dive into rockets and rocketry as a hobby. He said he spent a lot of time reading about rockets and making model rockets of his own.
