Fayetteville’s vision for an arts district took another step forward this month as the Fayetteville City Council approved plans to continue renovationson a public workshop and creative hub for artists called a makerspace.
During the Jan. 6 work session, Michael Gibson, director of Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation, updated the council on the project’s progress and outlined plans for the remaining budget of $450,770. The council voted unanimously to transform a city-owned warehouse. The building, which previously housed an old gas station on the corner of Murchison Road, Rowan Street and Bragg Boulevard, will now become a community space for artists and makers.
Gibson said a makerspace is where artists can come to work on their art.
