WERT — For a week last month, Van Wert schools’ Media Center/Library
became the enchanted land of Oz. Those entering from the hallway walked
past a black-and-white tornado mural in the hallway. A spun cotton
tornado led through the doorway to Munchkin Land with its lollipops,
over-the- rainbow-Skittles and Auntie M&Ms. The yellow brick road
was next, then the Angry Forest. The circulation desk had been remade as
the Witch’s castle, and a pile of green cardboard cylinders was the
Emerald City.
Oz was a group effort. “We had a lot of
participation this year,” Schmidt said. Germann made the flying monkeys
and the horse. Burcham’s Printing donated the window posters of
characters from the film. Greif supplied the industrial cardboard for
the castle, the Emerald City and the hot air ballon, and a custodian
