After fire, Staunton Makerspace not looking back

STAUNTON – From the ashes rise ideas and opportunity — at least that’s how Staunton Makerspace co-founder Jim Rutt sees things for the community of thinkers, builders and doers whose office was severely damaged in a fire Tuesday.

“The Makerspace is the makers — not the space or the equipment,” Rutt said. “That’s the secret sauce here.”

The group, which was founded on bringing together the Staunton community’s creative minds in the spirit of collaboration, didn’t waste any time regrouping after losing its workspace and most of its equipment in the fire. 25 Makerspace members still gathered for their weekly meeting to discuss “what the path forward is” Tuesday night — their goal is to open a new space by next Tuesday, March 7, co-founder Dan Funk said, and they’ve already begun looking for a new space.
