WORCESTER, Mass. – More than 140 volunteers from AbbVie worked at Belmont Street Community School Tuesday to build a new, immersive and modern makerspace for students.
It’s part of AbbVie’s eighth annual “Week of Possibilities” employee volunteer program. The space features new technology, hands-on learning materials and resources to promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Volunteers also prepared STEM-based educational resource kits, including books and school supplies, for students to take home.
“It’s one of our core principles, serving the community,” Mike McDonald, manufacturing site director for AbbVie, said. “The Belmont Community School is literally down the street from our Worcester facility and we’re so glad to be here to improve the facilities and create a STEM lab, a makerspace for students to return to in the fall.”
