New Berlin Education Foundation seeks funds for library project

A rendering shows what renovations to Orchard Lane Elementary's library in New Berlin will look like once finished. It is part of the Star Commons project, which is creating a multi-use library and makerspace. The Education Foundation of New Berlin is seeking to raise $250,000 for the project through public and private partnerships.

Efforts are underway to recreate a New Berlin elementary school’s library into a multipurpose space.

The project will create the Star Commons at Orchard Lane Elementary School. Star Commons will be within the space currently housing the school’s library and will consist of a multi-use library and makerspace, according to a news release from the Education Foundation of New Berlin.

To fund the project, the foundation is seeking to raise $250,000 through public and private partnerships. The New Berlin School District is committing to providing $80,000 for the necessary maintenance work, while the foundation’s goal is to raise $170,000. The funds will cover enhanced furniture, window coverings and a mural designed by high school students, as well as an endowment fund for future purchases needed to stock all the district’s libraries and makerspaces annually, the release said.
