Over the last few years Waxahachie ISD has made strides in providing students with opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.
During the WISD Board of Trustees meeting Monday the district received a special honor for those efforts.
Representatives from the National Institute of STEM Education (NISE) presented the district with the distinction of being a Nationally Certified District for STEM Excellence.
Melissa Abadie, director of advanced academics and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) advancement for WISD, has led the district’s vision for STEM education since the beginning. She said WISD is the first district in Texas to receive the honor.
