The new 30,000-sf Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine has completed in Portland, Maine. The museum was originally housed in the downtown Portland Arts District but the building’s physical limitations restricted its ability to expand programming and services. A large, 20-foot-high entry lobby surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass welcomes visitors. The lobby brings in abundant natural light and sets the stage for a welcoming experience. The museum’s exhibit spaces are easily navigable and incorporate visual and programmatic connections to Maine culture. A 100-seat theatre, experiential exhibits, a STEM classroom and maker space, meeting rooms and offices, and an outdoor play area adjacent to the waterfront landscape are also included.
