SF daredevils race big wheels down city’s crookedest street

Among the things that make San Francisco such a special city are its quirky traditions, many of which are grandfathered in from an era before event organizers had to put concerns over liability over good old-fashioned fun.

“It’s one of the last places in San Francisco; so many people co-create this thing. It’s a maker space. And it’s a silly, fun, dangerous kind of adventure that actually isn’t that dangerous,” noted event volunteer Missy Buchanan. “I think everybody just really feels good helping to make something with other people.”

Founded in 2000, the event takes place on Vermont Avenue between 20th Street and 22nd Street, on what’s actually the most crooked stretch of concrete in the city (sorry, Lombard Street).
