The Lafayette Public Library has more than just books, it has a variety of courses at the makerspace studio.
On Monday, the makerspace held a “make a mini-mitten” class hosted by the bilingual assistant librarian Zoe Boiarsky. The drop-in class had both experienced and novice knitters. In the class, she taught patrons how to knit in the round with double-pointed needles and purl and knit stitches; and she had the pattern available for the mittens. She also had a simpler pattern for novice knitters.
Boiarsky has been knitting since she was 8 years old and teaches many knitting classes at the makerspace. Using five knitting needles to make the mittens seems complicated, but Bioarsky broke it down to the basics and made the process less intimidating. She said rather than have…
