Merton Libraries have been awarded a Library Improvement Fund from Arts Council England of £73,354 to deliver a digital and education hub at Mitcham Library which will be called Connecting Communities.
The funding will make adaptations to the building to increase access using self-service technology (already deployed at our four branch sites) and create a makerspace using 3D printing, coding and virtual reality equipment, a large TV screen and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) resources.
The makerspace will be redecorated to include new flooring. Storage space and furniture will be purchased to support the delivery of new activities.
The Library Service has established partners who will deliver a range of activities and events to achieve the project outcomes.
