Mickelsen library to showcase resources for teens

Rachel Arizaga is the director of Morale, Welfare and Recreation-run libraries at Fort Bliss. The Mickelsen Community Library will host a Teen Tech Week from March 6-11.

The main library at Fort Bliss wants to reach out to teenagers and show them that it is much more than “just dusty old books.”

That’s the idea behind Teen Tech Week, which will be held from Monday through March 11 at the Mickelsen Community Library, 2E Sheridan Road.

It is a weeklong informational, educational and fun event that will culminate with a demonstration on March 11 of the library’s new MakerSpace.

The free event is open to 13 to 19 year olds who are dependents of military ID cardholders.

It is designed to showcase all the print and digital resources that are available to teenagers, said Rachel Arizaga, director of Morale, Welfare and Recreation-run libraries at Fort Bliss.

“We have books, DVDs, audio books, video games and all sorts of online content, which is partly educational but also recreational,” Arizaga said.
