SPEC will not be charged to run a portion of its after school youth program in the JBS Canada Centre mezzanine.
The non-profit organization was given the green light by city council last week until at least next March.
Amanda Goodnough, executive director of SPEC, said the province did not provide extra funding for rental space outside of their own office so they have been looking for after school spaces for their new program which went into affect on April 1.
Since April 1, 2020 the provincial Family Resource Network provided funds to SPEC for a parent-driven program for ages 0-18. On April 1, 2023 part of the local provincial funded program changed to focus on a program to work with youth between the ages of 7 and 18.
