DANBURY — It took two hours, but the city’s Zoning Commission got veteran developer Dan Bertram to admit that if he gave up his vision for 198 micro apartments in a defunct west side hotel in favor of a back-up plan for extended stay rooms, it would represent progress.
But that was as far as Bertram went.
“Oh, absolutely. Sure, yeah. It’s a progression. It is just a shame,” said Bertram, appearing for a second time before the nine-member commission that denied him permission in July to convert the defunct Crowne Plaza hotel into $1,250 studios and maker space for entrepreneurs and artists. “You don’t get the affordable housing component in an extended stay hotel economic model.”
