TRAHC MakerSpace moves to open-ended projects

TEXARKANA, Texas — Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council is revamping its Mayo Arts MakerSpace to emphasize open-ended creativity, replacing themed activities with rotating projects designed for all ages and skill levels.

The updated MakerSpace, inside TRAHC’s ArtSpace, is designed to encourage experimentation and exploration by offering a changing selection of materials and seasonal projects rather than a single guiding theme, according to a news release.

“Not having a specific theme allows for more diverse materials that spark imagination,” said Kay Thomas, TRAHC national teaching artist and MakerSpace designer. “Open-ended choices give the creative brain a workout. That problem-solving and play is what the artistic process is all about.”
