Library spokesperson Liz Anderson announced the move Thursday morning.
“Julia’s impact on the library and the broader community cannot be understated,” Anderson said in a statement. “Her work was literally transformative.”
Over the past decade, Merritt has overseen fundraising efforts for the historic Stratford library’s auditorium, the creation of its MakerSpace lab, and the redesign of its front garden.
Besides guiding the library through the pandemic, Merritt was also at the helm for two strategic plans and a rebranding effort. She also moved forward with a decision to make the library’s core collections fine free.
