A large majority of voters approved Seymour Library’s 2024 budget, which includes more than $1 million for operational expenses and a tax levy increase.
The budget passed Wednesday by a vote of 177 to 32. The election was open to registered voters in the library district, which includes the city of Auburn and towns of Fleming, Owasco and Sennett.
Most of the Auburn library’s budget is funded by property tax revenue. The budget includes a 5.5% tax levy increase, from $924,000 this year to $975,000 in 2024.
The library’s board of trustees voted to override the property tax cap before voters approved the budget. The cap limits tax levy increases to 2% or the rate of inflation, whichever is less.
