
Public access to digital media opportunities continues at VidWest after it received a contract from the City of Columbia.
VidWest recently was awarded the one-year renewable $35,000 contract to operate a community media center and public access channel. A grant award last year from Boone Electric Community Trust also allowed VidWest to buy new equipment.
The contract makes it so that Columbia residents are able to affordably access the available equipment and even studio space at VidWest.
Memberships have grown over the last year by 40% and VidWest serves a higher proportion of Columbia’s Black community at 14% compared to overall city population of 11%, based on World Population Review data.
Students and nonprofits also make up the considerable number of memberships.
