Parents, students get first look at new Hudsonville school before classes start

OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – Ten-year-old Emery Straub was among dozens of eager students and parents who got a first glimpse inside Hudsonville Public Schools’ brand new 5/6 building during a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house Thursday, Aug. 10

Standing at her newly assigned locker in the fifth grade wing, Straub practiced the lock combination for the first time with her mom, reading the numbers out loud to make sure she hit each one correctly. This will be Straub’s first year having a locker with a lock at school, so she’s a bit nervous about getting it right.

“I just think I’m not going to get it right away,” said Straub, who is heading into fifth grade at the new upper elementary and intermediate school, called the 5/6 Building @ Georgetown.
